The Masters Golf Tournament
The tournament that defines the history of the game and the modern day champion - The Masters
In 1934, a legend of golf named Bobby Jones made his return to competitive golf at the Augusta National Golf Club® at the first Augusta National Invitation Tournament. The event began the tradition of what is today is the most coveted title and the greatest golf tournament in the world - The Masters® Golf Tournament.
Every year, the city of Augusta hosts thousands of golf fans from around the globe to walk the course that was the dream of course designers Bobby Jones and Alister MacKenzie. The history of the tournament and the beauty of the Augusta National Golf Course brings golf fans back year after year to enjoy.
It all started on a Georgia peach farm.
The Augusta National Golf Course is built on the former Fruitland Nurseries, famous for sweet Georgia peaches. Prosper Berckmans dramatically grew the business in the 1860's and later became known as the "Father of the Peach Culture". The Berckman's family home still stands today at Augusta National serving as the golf club's iconic clubhouse.
Augusta National Golf Course is a private club and is not available for non-members to book tee times and it is not open to the public for tours. The Masters Tournament is considered one of the most coveted tickets in all of sports. Members of Augusta National make up most of the ticket holders, but the club does make daily Practice Round and Tournament tickets available via a lottery open to all. Check on the www.masters.com website for information about this lottery.
